I grew up in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn more appropriately known as Bed-Stuy. If you grew up in my neighborhood you might remember the motto that became the mantra for anyone from the “hood” it was, “Bed-Stuy, do or die”. (Let me take a minute to give love to my peeps from the old neighborhood.)
The neighborhood has changed over the years and so has some of the lingo we use when talking to each other. If you had a best friend back in the day you might say that’s my boy or you might say that’s my “Ace, Boon, Koon” Don’t ask me what a boon or a koon is but if we were really tight that’s what you were. If you made someone a promise you might solidify it by saying “Word is Bond”, which meant you can count on me.
Things have changed over the years. Today instead of saying word is bond we might use the term hey, “I Got You.” That means that no matter what happens I’m coming through for you. God has made us a promise in scripture here is what he said, “ I will never leave you or forsake you.” I believe sometimes we really forget what that means. So let me help you. That verse alone is powerful enough but listen to how it reads in the amplified bible.
“I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!”
Before you keep reading my words I want you to go back and read this promise from God’s word over and over again.
Let this word sink deep into your spirit. Take a few minutes and meditate on it because when you hide this word in your heart you will recognize one thing. God’s got you, word is bond.
