The Source of My Strength

Galatians 5:16 – So I say let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. (New Living Translation)

Philippians 4:13 – For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. (New Living Translation)

When you first start a new task, it is very common to feel overwhelmed. In those moments, it becomes easy to look to God for help. I can’t do this. He can help me, so why not ask for his help. However, what happens when you start to get comfortable in your role? What happens when what was overwhelming at the beginning becomes easier for you?

To use a sports analogy the game slows down. The pace is no longer mind-boggling and you begin to feel like you can manage. What felt difficult at first now dare I say almost feels easy.

When this happens, the tendency can be to begin to rely on your ability and not on God’s power because you don’t feel the need anymore. You can handle it. (I am speaking from personal experience.) The moment you feel you can handle it or “I got this”, that is the very moment you have gone from strength to weakness. You have gone from putting your trust in the all-powerful, all-knowing God to relying on your limited abilities. Like I said, from strength to weakness.

How do you combat this? By recognizing that God is your help. Not just when you feel weak, but also when you feel strong. By acknowledging where your strength comes from you position yourself to win, not just in the moment but also for the long haul.

The reality is God never designed our lives so we could live independent of him.

He designed us to live in cooperation with him where we are trusting in him to help us with everything we need. I encourage you today in every decision, in every meeting, in everything you do even if you have done it countless times before, never forget the true source of your strength. God has a reservoir of power, strength, wisdom, peace, joy, love, mercy, and grace ready to help you. You simply have to tap into it by bringing him in to every situation. As you do you will accomplish everything God desires you to accomplish but more importantly you will become the person he has created you to be.
